Fees and Funding

At NV Psychology, accessing psychological support is designed to be as clear and straightforward as possible. This page outlines every available funding pathway, what each one involves and how to get started — so you can make an informed decision without having to chase information from multiple sources.

Support is available through private fee sessions, Medicare rebates, bulk billing, NDIS funding and private health insurance. Psychological assessments are also available as a separate private fee service.

If you are unsure which option is right for you, reach out directly — we are always more than happy to help you work it out.

Private Fee Sessions

For the 2025-2026 financial year, the Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends a fee of $318, and the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi) recommends a fee of $330, for a standard 46 to 60 minute psychological consultation. You can view the full APS fee schedule here and the AAPi fee schedule here.

Our current fee of $260 per session sits below both recommended rates, reflecting our commitment to making quality psychological support more accessible.

Private fee sessions are the most direct and flexible way to access support. No referral required, no GP visit needed and no annual session limits.

This option is well suited to:

  • Clients aged 18 to 25 who want to access support independently and on their own terms
  • Clients who want to begin immediately without additional steps
  • Families who have reached their Medicare session limit and wish to continue
  • Clients who prefer simple, direct access without administrative processes

NDIS Funding

For self-managed and plan-managed participants

NDIS funding is accepted for self-managed and plan-managed participants. Psychology sessions can be funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living in your NDIS plan.

Please note this practice is not a registered NDIS provider and is therefore unable to work with agency-managed participants at this time.

What NDIS funding covers:

  • Individual psychology sessions via telehealth
  • Progress reports and clinical correspondence
  • Liaison with your support coordinator or plan manager

How to get started:

  • Confirm your NDIS plan includes funding under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living
  • Reach out to discuss availability and complete a service agreement
  • Invoices are issued after each session and sent directly to you or your plan manager
  • Direct liaison with your plan manager or support coordinator is available to make the process as easy as possible.

Medicare Rebates and Mental Health Care Plans

What is a Medicare rebate?
A Medicare rebate is a partial reimbursement from the Australian Government that reduces the out-of-pocket cost of a psychology session.

What is a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a document prepared by your GP that outlines your mental health needs and refers you to a psychologist. It entitles you to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year.

How to get a Mental Health Care Plan:

  • Book an appointment with your GP and ask specifically for a Mental Health Care Plan
  • Your GP will discuss your mental health concerns and prepare the plan
  • Bring the plan to your first session
  • After your 6th session, your GP will need to review your progress before the remaining sessions can be claimed

Current rebate amount:
The Medicare rebate for a standard psychology session is set by the Australian Government and reviewed periodically. The current rebate amount can be found at mbsonline.gov.au. Your out-of-pocket cost is the difference between $260 and the rebate amount.

Important:

  • Medicare rebates cannot be combined with private health insurance for the same session
  • Your 10 sessions reset at the start of each calendar year on 1 January
  • Brief questionnaires will be sent at regular intervals as part of the Medicare process — these take approximately five to ten minutes and are completed online before your session
  • After your 6th session, a progress report will be prepared and sent to your GP as part of the standard Medicare review

Bulk Billing

Out-of-pocket cost: $0 for eligible clients

Bulk billing means the Medicare rebate covers the full session fee, leaving no out-of-pocket cost. A Mental Health Care Plan from your GP is still required.

Eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out directly to discuss whether bulk billing is available for your situation.

Private Health Insurance

Sessions may be claimable through private health insurance with psychology extras cover. The rebate amount varies depending on your fund and level of cover.

Important: Medicare rebates and private health insurance rebates cannot be claimed for the same session.

We recommend contacting your insurer directly to confirm your entitlement before your first session.

Payment Plans

Flexible payment arrangements are available on request. Please reach out to discuss — these conversations are always handled with care and without judgement.

Questionnaires and Progress Monitoring

Brief questionnaires are sent at regular intervals throughout the therapy process via NovoPsych, a secure online platform. These take approximately five to ten minutes to complete and can be done from any device before your session.

Questionnaires help to:
- Track progress and identify how things are changing over time
- Ensure sessions remain relevant and effective
- Meet standard Medicare requirements for Mental Health Care Plan clients

GP Reviews
For Medicare clients, a progress report is prepared and sent to your GP after your 6th session. Your GP will conduct a brief review and, if appropriate, refer you for the remaining sessions. This is a standard Medicare requirement and is managed on your behalf.
